Trixbox uses a secret remotely-configurable BOT for data collection
18/Dec/2007 17:23 / news.asteriskguru.com
section: Asterisk third party

Isn't it just great when you learn that Fonality uses a secret remotely-configurable BOT for retrieving certain information from trixbox users? Especially when you know that this BOT can perform any command given? And isn't it even better when you know that Fonality didn't announce that information beforehand to anyone but was more like "caught red-handed"?

It is easy to see why people believe this is more like foul play. As I surfed around the trixbox forum I saw some Fonality experts trying to calm down the audience. It is not the actual act that scares people. It is more about the potential threats that could mean everything to a company. And the sneaky way it is used.

The good name of Asterisk-based systems should not be stained with covert data-collection hacks and tricks.

Yes Jeff, you're right. Actually no one accuses Fonality for being "evil bastards". People are just concerned.

The Fonality team promptly responded to community concerns and has posted a detailed description of the changes they are making to the auditing tool. Poor communication, yes. Evil bastards, no.

How can I remove it?

I don't care whether it's evil or not, I just wanna it removed and fast!

Please make your article more complete by pointing out how to remove the Fonality Spyware / Backdoor.
