Is speech recognition the ultimate goal of Microsoft?

A little birdy is leaking info concerning Microsoft’s plans to acquire Tellme Networks, a company that markets a platform based on the open standards-based VoiceXML 2.0 specification.

So far neither of the companies denied of confirmed the rumour. This gives more grounds for speculations, such as: the ultimate goal for Microsoft is a speech interface for the so-discussed Unified Communications. This makes sense for sure.

Further indulging into predictions could involve voice search and what not?
