The Indian government is on the verge of punishing illegal VoIP providers within the territory of the country. They say they are losing much on revenue with users bypassing the revenue and service tax for standard calls. Of course, since money alone is not a good enough reason for the ones in power to ban useful technologies, Indian officials have complained again about VoIP security. It is expected that the country will close doors to foreign ISPs. Skype and Yahoo may be in trouble. A sad example of how low governments can get is the passed Lebanese law that no broadband provider can offer speeds faster than 32kbps. Indian regulators don’t accept losing money to VoIP. According to this article there are some disguised players who pull the strings of he system. It also suggests that those are not willing to switch to VoIP. Oh, well, India.
